Each year Rock the Runway gets sponsored by an automotive brand to create a concept vehicle. In 2009, Mazda asked for a Triad concept. For 2010, Kawasaki is asking to redesign a Zx1000 concept bike. I took the opportunity to interview the Project Kawasaki Team. Check out the interviews below.
[NAME] Francisco Chipres [TEAM TITLE] Leader [Quarter] 12th [WHY INDUSTRIAL DESIGN MAJOR?] I was always interested in design and graphics especially in the automotive industry. [WHY PROJECT KAWASAKI?] I love group projects. [RTR EXPECTATIONS?] Getting the team image out and meeting potential employers. [AFTER GRADUATION PLANS?] I hope to work at a design firm for the automotive industry.
[NAME] Na Chan [TEAM TITLE] Marketer [Quarter] 10th [WHY INDUSTRIAL DESIGN MAJOR?] It’s a “masculine major” and you can do anything. I see Industrial Design more as a hobby for me. [WHY PROJECT KAWASAKI?] To keep up the tradition. I worked on the body design of the Gravity Racer which is hooked on the wall in Building A and worked on the Mazda Triad for Rock the Runway 2009. [RTR EXPECTATIONS?] I’m excited and hope for good times. [AFTER GRADUATION PLANS?] I want to vacation in Thailand and then teach Art in Cambodia.
[NAME] Marcus Ortega [TEAM TITLE] Clay Sculptor [Quarter] 11th [WHY INDUSTRIAL DESIGN MAJOR?] I went on a campus tour and I fell in love. [WHY PROJECT KAWASAKI?] It’s a good way to stand out and get recognized. [RTR EXPECTATIONS?] I have never been to Rock the Runway so I am excited about attending this year. I want to network with the beautiful people of Orange County. [AFTER GRADUATION PLANS?] I want to do product design for the furniture industry.
[NAME] Jeffrey Hernandez [TEAM TITLE] Clay Sculptor [Quarter] 8th [WHY INDUSTRIAL DESIGN MAJOR?] I’ve known about the automotive industry all my life because my family is into body shops. I’d like to do product design for the automotive industry. [WHY PROJECT KAWASAKI?] Since I want to get into the automotive industry, this project is a great opportunity for me to network with the industry. [RTR EXPECTATIONS?] I hope to network with industry professionals and meet beautiful girls. [AFTER GRADUATION PLANS?] I want to stay in California for two more years and then get my Masters in Europe and hopefully move out to Europe as well.
[NAME] Leonardo Magana [TEAM TITLE] Designer [Quarter] 7th [WHY INDUSTRIAL DESIGN MAJOR?] It’s a broad major where you can do anything and I have the ability to design, create graphics, and prototype. [WHY PROJECT KAWASAKI?] I walked into a meeting one day and I fell in love with the concept of the project. [RTR EXPECTATIONS?] I want to “awe” people. I want to represent my major, Industrial Design and my school, The Art Institute of California - Orange County. [AFTER GRADUATION PLANS?] I hope to get my Masters in Industrial Design and continue to work with the Magana company with my two brothers.
[NAME] Mathew Clark [TEAM TITLE] Designer [Quarter] 5th [WHY INDUSTRIAL DESIGN MAJOR?] I have a strong passion for building especially anything with a motor. I love working on a project that I can use my hands. [WHY PROJECT KAWASAKI?] I like Kawasaki. I used to have a Kawasaki bike. Also it’s a project where I get to work with my hands and it falls into the automotive industry, a field where I would like to work in. [RTR EXPECTATIONS?] Exposing the Industrial Design major and networking with industry professionals. [AFTER GRADUATION PLANS?] Whatever is offered in the automotive industry.
Project Kawasaki is facilitated by Truman Pollard and Chong Pak, instructors from Industrial Design. The showing of Project Kawasaki will be held from 1:00pm-6:00pm. Please come out and show your support not only for Kawasaki but for the Team as well. Hope to see your fabulous faces there.

The band consists of Damien B (Lyrics/Main Vocals/Music Production, Gianna Gianna (Back Vocals), and Jesse St. John (Additional Lyrics/Vocals).

So… Exciting new developments here at ROCK THE RUNWAY:
Project Runway Season 7 finalist, Mila Hermanovski, has signed on to judge the scholarship competition at this year’s event!
If you don’t know who she is, for SHAME…!
But, so you’re up to speed come May 8th, here’s a little background info:
MILA HERMANOVSKI:
Wi…th a family tree full of artists and designers, Mila was destined to be in a creative profession. After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Apparel Design, Mila headed to New York to pursue her career in Fashion. After working for almost 8 years in various positions at Calvin Klein, a fashion trend forecasting publication, and as a visual merchandiser for upscale 5th avenue stores, Mila began dabbling in costuming films, which was intriguing enough to relocate her to Los Angeles to further that career path. Having had many exciting and challenging projects in Hollywood, Mila acquired another aspect of experience, from a styling and costuming perspective.
Recently Mila was selected from thousands of applicants to compete in Project Runway, Season 7. She made it all the way to earning a spot as one of the final 3, and showed a 10-look Fall 2010 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York In February. Her collection has been extremely well received by critics and potential consumers alike.
